| As
young John Hartzell's wagon went from farm to farm, he became interested
in lightning rods and soon jumped into the lightning rod business,
which was a successful venture.
In 1875,
he started a small circle sawmill in Greenville, Ohio where he
cut general hardwoods, including oak and ash wagon stock dimension.
This led to the manufacture of farm wagons, well known throughout
the Midwest.
